Bengaluru: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, December 31, when a collision between an Innova car and a trailer lorry on Kuthiran Bridge resulted in one fatality and left five others critically injured.
The severity of the accident was immense, completely demolishing the Innova car. It required a joint effort from local residents and the police to extricate the Innova from the front of the trailer lorry.
The unfortunate incident took place around 3 am as the Innova, carrying a family from Bengaluru to Kottayam, was traveling on the road. The car was occupied by six individuals, including two women and four men. Tragically, one of the women was pregnant. The victims have been identified as the family of John Thomas, originally from Kottayam.
Among the injured, three individuals have been admitted to Thrissur Jubilee Mission Hospital, two to Ashwini Hospital, and one to District Hospital. The injured were swiftly transported to the hospitals using three ambulances and a highway police vehicle, with special attention given to the pregnant woman.
Regrettably, one of the male victims admitted to Mission Hospital succumbed to his injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that driver fatigue, possibly due to ongoing construction work on the road leading to the collapse in the Kuthiran area, may have been the cause of the accident. Currently, the identity of the deceased individual remains unknown.
