Surfer Found Dead in Santa Barbara Identified as 68-Year-Old Man
The body of a surfer recovered from the ocean off Santa Barbara this week has been identified as a 68-year-old man from Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The deceased surfer has been identified as Guy Brian Wright, confirmed by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office after notifying his next of kin.
The incident took place below Mesa Lane and emergency personnel, including firefighters, were called to the scene at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to a witness, a surfboard was found floating in the kelp bed offshore, which prompted another surfer and a private boat to search for its owner.
During the search, they discovered the deceased surfer and retrieved his body.
The Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol was informed that a commercial fishing vessel was bringing Wright’s body into the harbor. Firefighters and sheriff’s deputies met the boat at the dock, and paramedics confirmed Wright’s death.
While it is believed that Wright may have succumbed to a medical condition, the cause and manner of death are currently under investigation by the sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau.
