Tragic Accident Claims the Life of a 50-Year-Old Woman in Mumbai
Mumbai’s roads have become increasingly dangerous due to the reckless behavior of drivers. In the span of just one week, the city has witnessed three fatal accidents, causing the deaths of a food delivery executive, a teen student, and now a 50-year-old working woman. The latest victim, identified as Indumati Dhanmeher, was tragically killed when she was hit by a speeding auto-rickshaw in Borivali West.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 am when Dhanmeher was walking towards Babhai naka in Borivali West. As she crossed the road in front of the Prassan Jeevan building on Chandavarkar Road, an auto-rickshaw (MH 47 AJ2643) struck her. The impact resulted in severe head and leg injuries, and she was immediately rushed to Ganesh Hospital by nearby residents. Dhanmeher’s nephew, Bhavesh, was informed by a vada pav seller and arrived at the scene promptly. Tragically, the doctor pronounced her dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The rickshaw driver, Sanjay Khandare, initially fled the scene, but was later apprehended by the Borivali police. Bhavesh lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of a case against Khandare under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as provisions 134 (A) (take all reasonable steps to secure medical attention for the injured person) and 134 (B) (provide necessary information to a police officer) of the Motor Vehicles Act. The accused was subsequently released on bail, as confirmed by official Sameer Pawar.
Rash Driving by Shared Auto-Rickshaws: A Growing Concern
Bhavesh alleged that the rash driving exhibited by shared auto-rickshaws in the Gorai area has contributed significantly to the rise in accidents. Tragically, Dhanmeher is not the first victim of such recklessness. Earlier in the week, 22-year-old Zomato food delivery executive Saurabh Aayre was knocked down by a BEST bus, while 19-year-old hotel management student Mohammad Shaikh lost his life when a speeding tempo collided with his friend’s bike.
