The harrowing incident unfolded at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 4700 block of Greenholme Drive in Foothill Farms. The authorities were alerted to a shooting, prompting an immediate response from deputies. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive boy lying in a parking lot, bleeding profusely from his head and neck. Swiftly, the deputies administered life-saving measures until the arrival of fire personnel, as stated in a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, a mere 10-years-old, tragically succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital. Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, confirmed the young boy’s age during a press conference.

Eye-witness accounts revealed that the suspects sought refuge in a nearby four-plex after the incident. Deputies took prompt action, calling out to the suspects and detaining a man and two juveniles without encountering any resistance, according to Gandhi.

An investigation conducted by skilled detectives shed light on the sequence of events. It was revealed that one of the detained juveniles, a 10-year-old boy, had ventured into his father’s car to retrieve cigarettes for him. However, what he found inside the vehicle was far more alarming. The young boy stumbled upon a firearm and, in a misguided act of bravado, boasted about his father’s possession of a gun. Tragically, he allegedly discharged the weapon, inadvertently hitting the victim, before fleeing the scene in fear.

During the course of the investigation, deputies made a chilling discovery. The firearm used in the incident was recovered from a nearby trash can, indicating an attempt by the boy’s father, Arkete Davis, aged 53, to dispose of the weapon. Shockingly, it was later determined that Davis was legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. Furthermore, investigations revealed that the recovered firearm had been reported stolen back in 2017.

Davis now faces a slew of charges, including child endangerment, accessory after the fact, and various felony firearm-related offenses. He is currently being held in custody, with bail set at a staggering $500,000.

The young boy, his son, was swiftly taken to the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility, where he was booked on suspicion of homicide. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, as residents struggle to comprehend the tragic loss of life and the circumstances surrounding it.
