Killeen Police Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in Texas

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) – The Killeen Police Department and the Texas Rangers have launched a thorough investigation into an officer involved shooting that occurred earlier this week, leaving the suspect in critical condition, according to authorities.

On December 26, 2023, at approximately 12:24 p.m., law enforcement officers received a distress call regarding an ongoing burglary at a residence situated in the 800 block of Adela Street.

Upon arrival, the responding officers discovered a woman brandishing a knife and repeatedly instructed her to drop the weapon in the interest of everyone’s safety.

Unfortunately, the situation escalated quickly as the woman unexpectedly lunged at one of the officers, forcing the officer to discharge their firearm in self-defense, striking the woman.

The critically injured woman was promptly airlifted to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center for urgent medical attention, as confirmed by the Killeen Police Department.

In light of the incident, the Texas Rangers, renowned for their expertise in such matters, were summoned to the scene and have taken charge of the investigation.

A day later, on December 27, 2023, the Bell County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and formally charged the woman, identified as 44-year-old Michele Ero, with aggravated assault on a public servant.

Following the legal proceedings, Justice of the Peace Larry Wilkey issued an arrest warrant for Ero, ensuring appropriate measures are taken to address the alleged offense.

Turning their attention inward, the Killeen Police Department has adhered to standard protocol by placing the involved officer on administrative leave and commencing an internal investigation to ascertain the full details surrounding the incident.
