Police Rescue Spanish Town Businessman Kidnapped by Gunmen

In a stunning turn of events, the St Catherine North Police successfully rescued a businessman from Spanish Town who had been abducted by armed gunmen. The victim was forcefully taken away from his business place on Brunswick Avenue, with the kidnappers allegedly demanding an undisclosed sum of money for his safe release. This harrowing incident took place late in the evening on Thursday.

According to reports, the police swiftly responded to intelligence information and promptly arrived at a premises located in Ellerslie Gardens. However, upon their arrival, they encountered armed resistance from the kidnappers. A fatal exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of one suspect. The brave actions of the police led to the apprehension of two other individuals involved in the kidnapping, and authorities also seized a .38 revolver from the crime scene.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Howard Chambers, praised the police force for their quick and decisive action that ultimately rescued the kidnapped businessman. Chambers expressed his belief that it was the swift, certain, and confident response of the police that saved the victim’s life. Upon being rescued, the businessman was found with numerous bruises and swelling on his body. He was immensely relieved and grateful when the police arrived to rescue him, as revealed by Chambers.

Unfortunately, this triumphant operation was met with scepticism from angry residents in the area. Claiming injustice, these locals took matters into their own hands and set up a roadblock to dispute the police’s version of events. They vehemently insisted that the victim, identified as 35-year-old Donald Brown, a bar owner in Ellerslie Gardens, was forcefully dragged out of his business place by police personnel and shot behind his establishment.

The police, on the other hand, dismissed this narrative, stating that the victim was not from the area and remained unidentified. Senior Superintendent Chambers addressed the rift, emphasizing the positive relationship that the police division maintains with the community. He clarified that the roadblock was a result of a lack of knowledge on the part of the residents and assured that this incident would not strain the harmony between the police and the community.

Amidst the controversy surrounding this incident, Senior Superintendent Chambers highlighted the division’s remarkable achievement of a 20% reduction in major crimes. He expressed confidence in maintaining this downward trend in the new year.
