Gresham Police Investigating Fatal Shooting of Man Involved in Multiple Fights

GRESHAM, Ore. – In a tragic incident, a man lost his life on Thursday night following a shooting in Gresham. The Gresham Police Department has reported that the victim, identified as 34-year-old Austin Brand from Damascus, had been engaged in several altercations before the fatal incident occurred.

The incident took place around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Southeast Orient Drive and Southeast Anderson Road. Upon receiving the distress call, Gresham police promptly responded to the scene.

According to authorities, Brand had been involved in multiple fights in the vicinity prior to the shooting. During the final altercation, he sustained a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate application of first aid by arriving officers, Brand tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Gresham police detectives have been diligently conducting interviews with witnesses, gathering crucial evidence, and meticulously reviewing available video footage of the incident. As part of their investigation, they have also reached out to the individuals involved in the various altercations and the subsequent shooting.

Detective Adam Wright commented, “This is a complex investigation. We are still in the process of assessing the actions of all parties involved to determine whether any criminal charges are warranted or if any actions could be deemed justifiable self-defense.”

Once the investigation is concluded, it will be thoroughly reviewed by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office to determine the appropriate legal course of action.

Detectives strongly believe that members of the public may have come into contact with Austin Brand in the Damascus area on the evening of the incident.
