Mr. McMahon had been enjoying a dirt biking trip with his close friend, Declan Jones, at Sunny Corner before the accident occurred. He was on his way back home when the collision took place. The tragedy has left his family and friends heartbroken.

The collision took place when a car traveling in the opposite direction crossed onto the wrong side of the road. Mr. McMahon’s eastbound Isuzu D-Max, towing a motorcycle trailer, collided with a westbound Toyota Hilux. Subsequently, the Toyota struck a Hyundai Tuscan, ejecting it from the highway and trapping its occupants. In the chaos, Mr. McMahon’s Isuzu collided head-on with a Kia Carnival, while a Nissan Patrol, towing a caravan, collided with the Isuzu’s trailer.

Both Mr. McMahon and the 49-year-old male driver of the Kia were trapped and sadly lost their lives at the scene. The Kia’s six passengers, including five children and a 41-year-old woman, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The impact of the crash was so severe that a minivan was completely destroyed, and another vehicle ended up in a ditch. Multiple emergency response teams, including paramedics and SES officers, rushed to the scene to provide immediate assistance. Suitcases, pillows, and dirt bikes were scattered across the highway, painting a grim picture of the chaos that unfolded.

The Great Western Highway had to be temporarily closed due to the extensive cleanup and investigation required. NSW Police Superintendent Paul Glinn reported that initial findings indicate a vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road, leading to the tragic accident.
