San Pablo, CA – On the afternoon of December 8, 2023, at approximately 2:27 PM, San Pablo police officers swiftly responded to the 1100 block of Broadway Avenue following reports of a serious injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered a 60-year-old female pedestrian, who had sustained severe injuries. However, despite the medical intervention, the victim’s condition remained critical, and tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on December 23, 2023.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the San Pablo Police Department revealed that the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was identified as 39-year-old Dene Blakely, who is now considered the primary suspect. It was discovered that an altercation had taken place between Blakely and the victim prior to the collision, which allegedly stemmed from a dispute over stolen packages.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, after careful review of the criminal case, officially filed charges of Attempted Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon against Blakely on December 12, 2023.
