62-Year-Old Man Found Dead Near Badkala Firing Range in Saharanpur, UP

MEERUT: A 62-year-old man was discovered dead near the Badkala firing range in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The man, identified as Ghulam Mustafa, reportedly died due to excessive blood loss during an Army practice session, according to the police on Saturday.

Mustafa, who belonged to the Van Gujjar community, was living illegally in a thatched hut in the Badkala forest, near the firing range, as per reports by Krishna Chaudhary.

The Superintendent of Police (Rural) in Saharanpur, Sagar Jain, stated, “The cause of Mustafa’s death remains unclear. The preliminary postmortem report indicates that he suffered a pelvic fracture and severe bruises on his back. It is likely that he fell on his back while attempting to flee from the firing exercise and died due to blood loss from the bruises.”

Remarkably, this incident marks the third such occurrence in the region within a month. On December 14, an 11-year-old boy named Hanif Ahmed, hailing from the Van Gujjar community, tragically lost his life while trying to dismantle an explosive material obtained from a nearby firing range, located approximately 2km away from his home in Mirzapur, Saharanpur. Another incident took place on November 29, when a 37-year-old scrap dealer named Mohd Tauseef died while attempting to dismantle a misfired shell from a different firing range. The shell unexpectedly exploded in his shop located in Amheda village, Meerut.

The exact circumstances leading to Mustafa’s demise are still under investigation, and further details are awaited.
