Zackary Keith Jones was taken into custody on Christmas Day and has since been charged with several offenses including third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy, assault, strangulation, domestic assault of a minor, sex with a minor, and false imprisonment, based on records reviewed by Law&Crime.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Charlotte, North Carolina NBC affiliate WCNC, deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on Robertstown Road on December 25th. The caller, who was identified as Jones’ mother, reported an altercation between her son and his “girlfriend”.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders encountered Jones, who claimed that his girlfriend was no longer at home. However, Jones’ mother informed the deputies that the girl had never left the property, as reported by Raleigh, North Carolina NBC affiliate WRAL.
Deputies witnessed Jones attempting to dispose of drugs and drug paraphernalia by throwing them into a wood stove in his bedroom, as stated by Lexington, Kentucky NBC affiliate WLEX. Jones was promptly arrested and placed in the back of a sheriff’s cruiser while deputies conducted a search of the residence for the missing girl.
“Officers found her inside a trap door that was concealed under a rug in the bedroom,” the affidavit reportedly states. The document also mentions that the missing teen was discovered in a highly intoxicated state within the hidden compartment.
The girl informed deputies at the scene that she was the same individual who had been reported missing from Fayetteville, North Carolina earlier in the month.
During an interview with the police, the girl revealed that she and Jones initially met online, where he falsely claimed to be 19 years old, according to WLEX. Jones subsequently picked her up from her grandmother’s house in North Carolina and brought her back to Kentucky. Upon arriving at his residence in Kentucky, she discovered that he was actually 34 years old and he threatened her, demanding that she pretend to be 18 years old to his family, or else he would “take a 22-pistol and kill her”. She stated that he made similar threats on multiple occasions.
The victim also alleged that she and Jones were pulled over by law enforcement during their journey from North Carolina to Kentucky. She claimed that Jones threatened to shoot the deputy conducting the stop if he instructed them to exit the vehicle.
In a post-Miranda interview with detectives, Jones admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse with the 16-year-old girl on at least 10 occasions and providing her with drugs such as crack cocaine and marijuana, as reported by WRAL.
Jones is currently being held without bond in the Pulaski County Jail. It is anticipated that he will also face multiple criminal charges in North Carolina, although those charges have yet to be filed as of Friday.
