Virginia Man Sentenced to Over a Decade in Prison for Killing 5-Year-Old Son and Hiding Body in Freezer

A 51-year-old man from Virginia has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison after being found guilty of killing his 5-year-old son and concealing the body in a freezer for over two years. Kassceen Weaver, a former basketball star at the University of Richmond, was ordered by a state circuit court judge to serve a 20-year sentence in a state correctional facility, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime.

The jury convicted Weaver on charges of felony murder, felony child neglect, and concealing a dead body, which resulted in a 20-year sentence for the murder charge, 10 years for the child neglect charge, and five years for the concealment charge. These sentences will run concurrently.

Eliel Adon Weaver, the young victim, was killed on October 23, 2018, but his remains were not discovered until 2021. Investigators found the boy’s body in a freezer located in the garage of the home Weaver shared with his wife and son.

Initially, Eliel’s mother, Dina Weaver, was arrested and charged in connection to the boy’s death. However, the charges against her were later dropped as it was revealed that she had also been a victim of physical and emotional abuse by her husband.

In addition to the charges related to his son’s body, Weaver faced allegations of maliciously wounding his wife and committing domestic assault and battery. Authorities stated that Weaver had manipulated his wife, who had suffered years of abuse at his hands.

The investigation into Weaver began when his brother-in-law contacted the police, expressing concerns about his sister being in a domestic violence situation. The brother-in-law disclosed that his sister had mentioned her deceased son and revealed that the boy had died approximately two years prior. He also revealed that Weaver had not reported the death to the police and had hidden the body in the garage freezer due to bruising.

Prosecutors stated that upon executing a search warrant, investigators quickly discovered the boy’s remains. The body had been tied up with twine, wrapped in adult clothing, and placed inside a tote bag, which was then placed in a plastic container and stored in the freezer.

Weaver’s wife testified that on the night of their son’s death, Weaver had called her to inform her that the boy had stopped breathing and lost consciousness. Despite attempting CPR, Weaver did not seek medical assistance when his efforts failed. Instead, he wrapped up their son’s body and placed him in the freezer.

With the maximum sentence being 55 years in prison, Weaver has been sentenced to more than a decade behind bars for his heinous actions.
