Teacher Arrested for Assaulting 9-Year-Old Student at Marshall Elementary School in Prince William County

Introduction

A shocking incident occurred on November 29 at Marshall Elementary School, located at 12505 Kahns Road in Prince William County. The accused, Christine Annette Mitchell, a 60-year-old teacher from Manassas, was arrested for assaulting a 9-year-old student. Mitchell has been on administrative leave since the incident, according to a spokesperson from Prince William County schools.

The Assault

The disturbing incident came to light when Prince William County police Lt. Jonathan Perok released a news statement explaining the details of the assault. According to Lt. Perok, an investigation revealed that Mitchell, the accused teacher, grabbed and dragged the young girl from one classroom to another within the school premises.

Reporting the Incident

The assault was reported to the police later that evening. Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries during the incident, shared Lt. Perok in the news release.

Legal Actions and Charges

In response to the assault, the police charged Mitchell with assault and battery on December 27. However, she was released on a summons to appear in court. Regrettably, no booking photo of the accused was available at the time of reporting.

Principal’s Response

Following the disturbing incident, principal Cindy Klimaitis addressed the Marshall school community in a letter on December 28. Expressing shock and disappointment, Principal Klimaitis assured the community that the incident was not reflective of the school’s values and the hard-working staff. She emphasized their commitment to the students and the community.

The Accused Teacher’s Background

Christine Annette Mitchell, who has been detained for the assault, was a first-year teacher at Marshall Elementary School. She is listed on the school’s website as a specialist in teaching students with autism. Mitchell’s journey with Prince William County Public Schools began in 2020 when she joined as a bus driver. In January 2023, she began teaching at the school, as confirmed by the school’s spokesperson.
