Melbourne Police Deliver Update on Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash that killed Andrew Sofranko

Victim Identified as Andrew Ryan Sofranko, 23, from Pennsylvania

The 23-year-old Andrew Sofranko was in Melbourne celebrating his father and stepmother’s wedding. Just hours before his death, he was delivering his best man speech.

BREVARD COUNTY, MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police have delivered an update on the fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Christmas Day, resulting in the tragic death of Andrew Sofranko.

According to the latest report, the police have successfully located and secured the vehicle that fled the scene of the crash. The suspect vehicle is a 2019 white Chevrolet Malibu with a Florida license plate.

Please note that the vehicle shown below is not the actual vehicle involved in the incident, but a similar exemplar vehicle based on the one currently in police custody.

The Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit is currently investigating this crash as a Traffic Homicide Investigation. The Melbourne Police Department is actively working to identify the driver of the vehicle at the time of the fatal crash.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday around 12:18 a.m. near the intersection of South Harbor City Blvd. and Strawbridge Ave.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the pedestrian, identified as Andrew Ryan Sofranko from Handover TWP, Pennsylvania, with life-threatening injuries.

Sofranko was rushed to the Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Initial investigation suggests that Sofranko was attempting to cross S Harbor City Blvd near the Strawbridge Ave intersection when he was struck by an unknown driver traveling north on South Harbor City Blvd.

Regrettably, the driver of the vehicle failed to stay at the scene and fled northbound on South Harbor City Blvd.

At present, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The 23-year-old Sofranko had been in Melbourne to celebrate his father and stepmother’s wedding. Tragically, just hours before his untimely death, he had delivered his best man speech.

The investigation into the hit-and-run crash is still ongoing.
