Jeffery Davis, a 40-year-old man, has been accused of brutally attacking a 65-year-old Asian woman, Junko Hanafusa, with a sledgehammer on the El Camino College campus in Torrance. The incident took place on Sunday, December 24, and the victim tragically succumbed to her injuries on Christmas Day.

The El Camino College Police Department initially handled the case and later received assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. While the motive behind the attack has not been disclosed, a spokesperson from the LASD stated that it could be a completely random act of violence.

The incident occurred at around 7 am on the 16000 block of Crenshaw Boulevard in Torrance. Junko Hanafusa was reportedly collecting recyclables on the college campus when she was viciously attacked. She was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where she fought for her life but unfortunately passed away on Christmas Day.

Authorities have charged Jeffery Davis with the attack and have also accused him of fleeing the scene. The suspect is currently being held with bail. The victim’s unresponsive body was discovered by a bystander who promptly notified the police.
