An Elizabethtown woman tragically lost her life, and a man from the same city has been taken into custody on charges of murder. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the heart of Elizabethtown, leaving the community in shock.

The Elizabethtown Police Department has confirmed that 34-year-old Chris A. Bell Jr. has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 37-year-old Kenyeta McWilliams.

Shooting in a Residential Area

The shooting took place at approximately 8:40 PM on Henon Lane, a densely residential area in Elizabethtown. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered McWilliams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts to save her, the Elizabethtown newspaper reported that McWilliams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency Protective Order in Place

Authorities quickly identified Chris A. Bell Jr. as a suspect in the case. It was revealed that McWilliams had previously obtained an emergency protective order (EPO) against him. The investigation, which included reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, uncovered the sequence of events leading to the tragic shooting.

Violent Encounter at the Victim’s Home

According to the evidence gathered, Bell arrived at McWilliams’ residence and was permitted to enter. However, at some point, he was asked to leave. As McWilliams closed the front door, Bell opened fire, shooting the victim multiple times through the door.

Arrest and Charges

Law enforcement authorities apprehended Bell a few hours after the incident. He now faces charges of murder and violating the emergency protective order. Bell is currently being held at the Hardin County Detention Center, with his bail set at $1 million in cash.

Community in Mourning

The tragic loss of Kenyeta McWilliams has left the Elizabethtown community in mourning. Her untimely death serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence. The local authorities are urging residents to seek help if they find themselves in abusive situations and to utilize available resources for protection.
