A 45-year-old Woman Arrested and Charged for Allegedly Running Over Pedestrian While Under the Influence of Alcohol

A 45-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The incident took place on December 28 at approximately 11:10 p.m. in Williamsburg, James City County, Virginia.

The James City County Police and Fire Departments swiftly responded to the scene at the 7-Eleven located at 1800 Jamestown Road. Upon arrival, officers immediately initiated an investigation while medics attended to the victim, who had sustained serious injuries as a result of being struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene.

According to witness accounts and surveillance footage, the incident originated as a verbal altercation between the victim and a woman in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven. The woman, identified as Danita Martin, entered a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, intentionally reversed the vehicle, striking and ultimately running over the victim, before fleeing.

It is worth noting that the victim and Martin were acquainted and had arrived at the convenience store together. However, the situation quickly escalated, resulting in the unfortunate incident.

Arrest and Charges

Within twenty minutes of the incident, the James City County Police located the Silverado at the Jamestown Settlement parking lot. The vehicle was promptly impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.

A DUI investigation was conducted with Danita Martin, the sole occupant of the vehicle, which subsequently led to her arrest. Martin now faces several charges, including Driving Under the Influence, Maiming due to DUI, and Felony Hit-and-Run Resulting in Injury.

Following her arrest, Martin, a 45-year-old resident of Surry County, was taken to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where she has been denied bond pending further legal proceedings.

Victim’s Condition and Ongoing Investigation

The victim sustained significant injuries from the incident and was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News. However, the current condition of the victim remains undisclosed.

The investigation into the incident is actively ongoing, with law enforcement authorities diligently working to gather additional evidence and statements. It is possible that further charges may be brought forward against Danita Martin in the future.
