BALCH SPRINGS, Texas – Suspected Uptown Dallas Shooter May Have Committed Two More Shootings

In a shocking turn of events, a man arrested for the murder of Army veteran Roderick Butler in Uptown Dallas last week is now believed to be connected to two additional shootings. Corey Antwon Thompson, a convicted violent criminal, was apprehended and is currently in jail, facing murder charges.

Authorities have reason to suspect that Thompson may have committed these two shootings while he was on the run. One of the incidents appears to be a random act of violence, further heightening concerns about Thompson’s dangerous behavior.

The initial murder that Thompson is accused of took place on December 20 off McKinney Avenue in Uptown Dallas. It is alleged that he used a rifle to kill the victim, shocking the local community.

Now, investigators have uncovered evidence linking Thompson to two more shootings that occurred during the six days he evaded capture. The Balch Springs Police Department has named Thompson as a suspect in these cases.

The first of these additional shootings occurred on Christmas morning when a white Lincoln SUV registered to Thompson pulled up alongside another vehicle and opened fire. The driver of the targeted vehicle, Francisco Jesus Manriquez, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, while his female passenger miraculously escaped unharmed.

Balch Springs Police Department Public Information Officer Pedro Gonzalez provided details about the incident, stating, “During the time of the shooting, she ducked down. All of a sudden, this Lincoln pulls up and he starts firing into the vehicle without saying any words, without making any interaction or any communication. It was just a random shooting. We know for a fact that it wasn’t pertaining from a road rage incident or from a robbery. It was just a random shooting.”

The second shooting occurred five days before the initial murder in Uptown Dallas. At the time, the police believed it to be an isolated incident, with Dallas Police Department’s Jesse Carr stating, “There’s not a danger to the public, this is isolated, and he was targeted for some reason.”

However, as the investigation unfolded, Thompson’s white Lincoln SUV was linked to the Christmas murder in Balch Springs. Additionally, Balch Springs PD has been in contact with Rowlett police regarding a shooting involving a white Lincoln SUV in their jurisdiction. Fortunately, no one was injured in the Rowlett incident.

Balch Springs Police Department PIO Pedro Gonzalez expressed the possibility of additional charges in the Balch Springs case, stating, “We’re still waiting for ballistic evidence.” The evidence collected will play a crucial role in building a strong case against Thompson.

Thompson has a history of aggravated assault convictions and was out on bond when he allegedly committed these recent shootings. His previous charges include felony criminal mischief, misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury/family violence, and misdemeanor terroristic threat of family/household. Magistrate Janet Lusk signed bond paperwork for Thompson in May, setting his bond at $10,000.

Currently, Thompson is being held without bond. Rowlett police have confirmed their collaboration with Balch Springs PD but have stated that they do not yet have conclusive evidence linking Thompson to their incident.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working diligently to gather all necessary evidence to ensure a successful prosecution in these cases. The community remains on high alert as they await further developments in this shocking and disturbing series of events.
