Connecticut State Police K-9 Discovers Narcotics During Norwich Arrest
NORWICH, Conn. – In a commendable display of skill and efficiency, a Connecticut State Police K-9 successfully uncovered illegal narcotics during an arrest in Norwich on Wednesday, as confirmed by authorities.
Observation of an Oncoming Vehicle
At approximately 2:14 a.m. on Laurel Hill Avenue, vigilant troopers noticed a vehicle approaching in the opposing lane. Fortunately, they managed to avoid a collision and promptly decided to initiate a traffic stop.

Identification of Impairment
Upon making contact with the driver, identified as 28-year-old Dillen B. Dye from Norwich, state police officers observed signs of impairment. To further assess the situation, troopers conducted standardized field sobriety tests on the scene. Unfortunately, Dye failed to perform these tests to the required standards.
Detection of Suspicious Activity
During the course of the investigation, troopers noticed potential indicators of criminal activity within the passenger compartment of the vehicle. In response, Connecticut State Police deployed their highly skilled K-9 unit, with K-9 Epic leading the way.
K-9 Epic’s Alert
With remarkable accuracy, K-9 Epic alerted the troopers to the presence of illegal narcotics both in the truck of the vehicle and in a hidden drug factory.
Seizure of Illegal Substances
As a result of the investigation, the police successfully seized the following incriminating evidence: approximately 10.5 grams of suspected cocaine, accompanied by packaging material, as well as approximately 422 grams of suspected marijuana, also with packaging material. Additionally, an electronic scale and a sum of cash were confiscated.
Processing and Charges
Dye was subsequently transported to Connecticut State Police Troop E, where he underwent processing. He now faces charges of operating under the influence and failure to maintain in a lane. To secure his release, Dye posted a $500 bond for the aforementioned charges.
Additional Charges Filed
In addition to the initial charges, Dye is now facing further legal consequences. He has been charged with two counts of intent to sell, operation of a drug factory, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. To secure his release for these additional charges, a $5,000 surety bond was posted.
Upcoming Court Appearance
Dye is scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court on January 11, 2024, where he will face the charges brought against him.
