Man Shot and Killed by Austin Police after Brandishing BB Gun Identified as Konrad Khorshahian

AUSTIN, Texas — The man who was shot and killed by Austin police at an apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon has been identified as 63-year-old Konrad Khorshahian. The incident occurred when Khorshahian was holding a BB gun and pointing it at officers, according to the Austin Police Department (APD).
On Friday, APD Interim Chief of Police Robin Henderson confirmed the identity of the deceased as Konrad Khorshahian. The incident took place at an apartment complex located on East Howard Lane near Dessau Road.
According to a statement from Chief Henderson, officers responded to a call at the complex around 1 p.m. Initially, it was reported that Khorshahian was firing a rifle in the parking lot. However, an update on Wednesday clarified that he had been holding a BB gun.
Upon arrival, both officers took cover and instructed Khorshahian to drop his weapon. Reportedly, Khorshahian shouted that he wanted the officers to shoot him. After additional verbal commands were given, police fired shots at approximately 1:30 p.m. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived shortly after, but Khorshahian was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:48 p.m.

The shooting is currently under investigation. The officer who discharged his weapon will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation. The officer in question has been with the APD for four and a half years.
As per police protocol, bodycam footage of the incident will be released within 10 business days. This will provide further clarity and transparency regarding the events that unfolded.
