Police Seeking Persons of Interest in Capital Murder Case in San Antonio, Texas

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has announced that they are actively searching for two persons of interest in connection with a disturbing capital murder case. The investigation commenced after 18-year-old Savanah Soto, a full-term pregnant woman, and her 22-year-old boyfriend, Matthew Guerra, were found dead inside a vehicle in San Antonio on Tuesday. Tragically, the unborn child was also discovered deceased.

Authorities suspect that the victims’ Kia Optima had been parked at the location for several days before the discovery. While the female victim has not been officially identified by the medical examiner, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus expressed confidence that it is Savanah Soto during a press briefing on Thursday. The cause of her death is yet to be determined, but McManus revealed that Matthew Guerra died from a gunshot wound to the head.

At present, the SAPD does not believe this to be a murder-suicide, although they acknowledge the possibility. The case is being treated as a capital murder investigation for both victims. Chief McManus described the act as heinous and unspeakable, emphasizing the tragedy of the incident.

In an effort to gather more information, the police have released footage of two individuals who are considered persons of interest in the case. One of them was captured driving the victims’ Kia Optima, while the other was seen driving a dark-colored pickup truck. McManus clarified that neither victim appeared in the video, but the person of interest in the pickup truck was observed conversing with the driver of the victims’ car.

The circumstances surrounding the case have perplexed investigators from the beginning. Initially, it was unclear whether the incident would be classified as a murder-suicide or a capital murder. However, Chief McManus stated that the investigation has progressed, and they are now treating it as a capital murder case, unless new evidence suggests otherwise.

Prior to her tragic demise, Savanah Soto was last seen on December 22 in Leon Valley. Concerns grew among her family members when she missed a crucial medical appointment after surpassing her delivery date. The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a CLEAR Alert for Soto on Monday, which is reserved for individuals in imminent danger or who have involuntarily disappeared.

Speaking to San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT, Soto’s mother, Gloria Cordova, expressed her worries about her daughter’s sudden silence. Cordova had planned for Soto to be induced at a hospital on the previous Saturday. However, when the expectant mother failed to answer her calls, Cordova contacted the police.

According to Cordova, Soto’s home was immaculate and fully prepared for the baby’s arrival. She emphasized that this behavior was highly uncharacteristic of her daughter, who was overjoyed about becoming a mother.

As part of the investigation, detectives are meticulously analyzing social media posts, cellphone records, and days’ worth of surveillance footage from various locations the victims were known to frequent. The SAPD hopes that these sources will shed light on the events leading up to the tragic deaths.
