An Inmate at Yerawada Central Prison Fatally Attacked by Fellow Undertrial Inmates

An undertrial inmate, Mahesh Mahadev Chandanshive (27), was brutally murdered at the Yerawada Central Prison on Thursday afternoon. The victim was fatally attacked by a group of four other undertrial inmates, who used a pair of scissors and a piece of metal hinge as weapons. Prison officials have stated that the attack was a result of a past rivalry.

Chandanshive, a resident of Chikhali, was arrested by the Pimpri Chinchwad police in November of last year. He was charged with preparing and assembling for a dacoity, along with possession of dangerous weapons, alongside his gang members. Since November 30, 20XX, he had been held in Barrack No. 1 of Circle No. 2 at the Yerawada Central Prison, which is specifically designated for undertrials.

A senior officer from Yerawada Central Prison described the incident, stating, “Around 3:10 pm on Thursday, Aniket Samdur, Mahesh Mane, Aditya Mure, and Ganesh Mote, a group of four undertrial inmates, attacked Chandanshive. They used a pair of scissors typically used by barbers in the prison for haircuts, as well as a metal hinge from a door. The victim sustained injuries to his neck and abdomen. Our prison doctors immediately provided treatment, and Chandanshive was transported to Sassoon General Hospital in a prison ambulance. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.”

The Yerawada Police station has registered a case of murder against the four assailants. A thorough investigation will be conducted to determine how the attackers obtained the objects used as murder weapons.
