Tragic Accident Claims Life of Singapore Tourist at Minnewaska State Park

ELLENVILLE, N.Y. – In a devastating incident at Minnewaska State Park in the Hudson Valley, a 39-year-old tourist from Singapore lost her life while taking photographs with her husband. The incident occurred on December 22, when Nur Aisyah Binte MD Akbar fell off a cliff, resulting in her untimely demise.

The couple was hiking the popular Beacon Hill Trail when the tragic accident took place. According to the New York State Police, Nur Aisyah and her 41-year-old husband, Abdul Rauf Bin Mohd Said, had paused to capture scenic pictures near the edge of a cliff around 1 p.m.

Tragically, Nur Aisyah lost her footing, causing her to plummet approximately 70 feet to the ground below. Her husband immediately called emergency services, and the state police aviation unit promptly responded to the distress call. With the assistance of state park police and forest rangers, a rescue operation was initiated to save Nur Aisyah’s life.

After being hoisted into a helicopter, Nur Aisyah was swiftly transported to Ellenville Regional Hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical team, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the hospital.

Abdul Rauf Bin Mohd Said shared his heart-wrenching grief on Facebook, expressing his profound sorrow over the loss of his beloved wife. He mentioned that first responders tirelessly tried to resuscitate Nur Aisyah for nearly three hours, but their efforts unfortunately proved futile. Overwhelmed by sorrow, Abdul Rauf Bin Mohd Said admitted to being distraught and unable to piece his broken heart back together.

In his emotional post, Abdul Rauf Bin Mohd Said referred to his late wife as his “best friend and soul mate.” He apologized for not being able to reach her in time and used the Malay word “sayang” to address her, which translates to “dear.”

Days later, Abdul Rauf Bin Mohd Said shared another heartfelt post, revealing that he had witnessed his wife’s casket being loaded onto a plane bound for Singapore at JFK Airport. He expressed his anticipation of her arrival in Singapore, where her family and loved ones were eagerly awaiting her return. Abdul Rauf Bin Mohd Said also mentioned the couple’s adopted and rescued animals, who would have the opportunity to see Nur Aisyah again.

The investigation into this tragic accident is currently ongoing, as state police work diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding Nur Aisyah’s fall. Minnewaska State Park attracts numerous visitors every year due to its breathtaking natural beauty, and this unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caution and safety while enjoying outdoor activities.
