Woman Arrested on Felony Charges After Drunkenly Driving to Bail Someone Out
COLUMBUS, Ind. — Stephanie Horn, a 58-year-old woman from Columbus, is facing felony charges after allegedly driving under the influence and resisting arrest. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department (BCSD) deputies encountered Horn at the Bartholomew County Jail.
The Drunken Encounter
According to BCSD, Deputy Dylan Prather noticed a silver Jeep entering a secure lot at around 3 a.m. The driver, later identified as Horn, honked the car’s horn before parking and approaching Deputy Prather’s patrol vehicle. In a reportedly intoxicated state, Horn claimed she had come to bail someone out of jail.
During the interaction, Deputy Prather observed several signs of intoxication from Horn. However, when asked to submit to a preliminary breath test, Horn refused. This refusal raised suspicions and escalated the situation.
Resisting Arrest and Battling Deputies
As the discussion with deputies progressed, Horn became verbally aggressive and attempted to walk away from the authorities. BCSD deputies then placed her in handcuffs. However, she resisted arrest and kicked one of the deputies in the leg.

Horn was subsequently taken into custody and transported to Columbus Regional Hospital. While at the hospital, she kicked another deputy, this time in the shoulder. Authorities obtained a search warrant to draw Horn’s blood before returning her to the jail.
Felony Charges and Blood Alcohol Content
Once back at the jail, Horn was booked on multiple charges, including operating while intoxicated, reckless driving, resisting law enforcement, battery on a law enforcement officer (two counts), and public intoxication. As part of the booking process, Horn provided a preliminary breath sample, which revealed a blood alcohol content (BrAC) of 0.165%. She is currently being held on a 48-hour hold.
This incident highlights the dangers of driving under the influence and the potential consequences individuals may face when resisting arrest and assaulting law enforcement officers. It serves as a reminder to prioritize responsible behavior and make safe choices to protect oneself and others.
