Reston man apprehended for false stabbing report and burglary

Law enforcement officials have identified the suspect as Fawad Fafa, a 44-year-old resident of Reston. According to the police, on November 10, Fafa lodged a report with the LCSO alleging that he had become a victim of a stabbing in the parking lot of Sterling’s Dulles Town Center Mall. Fafa claimed that as he was entering his vehicle, two masked individuals approached him and stabbed him before fleeing in a dark-colored four-door sedan.

Upon further investigation, authorities discovered that the stabbing incident had been entirely fabricated and that Fafa had actually inflicted the injuries upon himself.

Additionally, on November 8, Fafa, who worked at the Sports Nation store, reported a burglary at the establishment during the overnight hours, with money being stolen. However, subsequent investigations revealed that Fafa himself had taken the money.

Fafa was apprehended on December 15 and now faces charges of filing false police reports and embezzlement. He was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and was released on December 16, 2023, after posting a $1,500 bond.

Officials have now disclosed that on December 19, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Fafa forcibly entered the Sports Nation store located in the Dulles Town Center Mall and stole money from the cash register. As a result, he has obtained additional charges of burglary and embezzlement.

The Fairfax County Police Department apprehended Fafa, and he is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
