A Police Officer from Imo State Shot Dead by Girlfriend

In a tragic incident that occurred on Boxing Day, a police officer attached to the Imo State Police Command, Cosmas Ugwu, was shot dead by his 23-year-old girlfriend, identified as Amanda Uchechi Ugo, a native of Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

The harrowing incident took place at the Ezinihitte Area Command around 6:30pm. Officers on counter duty were startled when they heard three gunshots coming from the room occupied by the deceased officer.

Rushing to the scene, the officers found Corporal Ugwu lying in a pool of his own blood. He had been shot three times in the chest and left hand. He was immediately rushed to Evergreen Hospital in Ezinihitte, where the attending doctor pronounced him dead.

According to a source close to the investigation, it was revealed that the deceased had a heated argument with his girlfriend, which escalated to a physical altercation. During the course of the fight, Ugo managed to grab the officer’s rifle, pulled the trigger, and shot him multiple times.

The circumstances surrounding how Ugo was able to handle the police rifle successfully remain a mystery. Speculation suggests that Ugwu may have taught her the necessary skills to operate the weapon.

The body of the slain officer has been deposited at the Obizi mortuary, while authorities continue their investigation into the tragic incident.

The suspect, Amanda Uchechi Ugo, is currently in police custody, where she is being interrogated and is likely to face prosecution.
