San Diego Couple Found Dead in Murder-Suicide at Golden Acorn Casino

San Diego police have identified a couple from San Ysidro who were found lifeless inside a truck parked in the Golden Acorn Casino parking lot in East County on Tuesday. Investigators suspect that the couple died in a tragic murder-suicide incident.

According to San Diego homicide Lieutenant Steve Shebloski, Border Patrol agents discovered the bodies of a 52-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman in the backseat of the vehicle at the casino, located near Live Oak Springs off Interstate 8, around 12:25 p.m.

Upon examination, it was revealed that the man had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, while the woman had died from strangulation, as stated by the authorities.

The deceased man has been identified as Johnny Soto, while the woman has been identified as Melissa Soto.

Prior to this tragic discovery, detectives had been actively searching for the married couple since last Thursday following their mysterious disappearance. Lieutenant Shebloski further revealed that the circumstances surrounding their disappearance were considered suspicious. It was known that the couple had been separated for several months, and during the investigation, evidence of a physical altercation was discovered at the husband’s residence, which they used to share.

Based on the collected evidence, the police speculate that the woman was killed during the altercation at their shared residence before being taken to the Golden Acorn Casino, where the husband subsequently took his own life.
