Motorcycle Rider Fatally Struck by Van in Lapu-Lapu City

A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, when a motorcycle rider lost his life after being hit by a van while travelling along the national highway in Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. The victim, identified as Ronil Hinautan, a 31-year-old single resident from Barangay San Miguel, Cordova town, tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Accompanying Hinautan on the motorcycle was Orlando Torregosa Pacaldo, a 38-year-old married man from Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City, who sustained injuries in the collision. The incident occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m. when the motorcycle and a Toyota Hi-Ace van, driven by 29-year-old Charlie Tapdasan, were travelling in opposite directions along the national highway.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, represented by Lieutenant Cristian Torres, provided details of the accident. According to Lieutenant Torres, Tapdasan unexpectedly made a left turn, resulting in a collision with Hinautan’s motorcycle. The force of the impact caused significant harm, leading to the immediate transportation of both victims to a nearby hospital.

Upon arrival at the medical facility, attending physicians declared Hinautan dead, highlighting the severity of his injuries. Meanwhile, Pacaldo continues to receive medical treatment for his injuries sustained in the accident.

Authorities have taken Tapdasan into custody as part of their investigation into the incident. The case remains unresolved, pending further examination of the evidence and statements.
