(CNN) — The San Antonio Police Department made a heartbreaking discovery on Wednesday as they found two bodies inside a car, suspected to belong to a missing Texas teenager who was nine months pregnant and her boyfriend. Both victims had suffered from gunshot wounds, according to police reports.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus addressed the media on Tuesday, stating that they believe the bodies to be those of 18-year-old Savannah Soto, who was last seen on December 22, and her boyfriend. However, official confirmation of the identities is still pending.

The medical examiner’s office has identified one of the victims as 22-year-old Matthew Guerra, who was Soto’s boyfriend, as confirmed by family members.

Authorities are still awaiting the identification of the female victim, said police sources.

Ongoing Investigation into the Tragic Incident

A police statement released on Wednesday revealed that the case has been classified as “Capital Murder due to the death of an unborn child,” according to San Antonio Police Lt. Michelle Ramos.

The car containing the bodies was discovered parked near an apartment complex, as stated in an earlier police report.

Police believe that the bodies had been in the car for approximately three to four days, creating a perplexing crime scene for investigators.

Missing Teen’s Disappearance Raises Concern

Savannah Soto had been pregnant and had already passed her delivery date when she missed a crucial medical appointment, prompting her family to report her as missing, as stated in a press release by the Leon Valley Police Department.

The last sighting of Soto occurred on Friday in the 6000 block of Grissom Road in Leon Valley, according to an alert issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The alert described the car associated with the missing teenager as a grey Kia Optima.

In a media release from the Leon Valley Police Department, it was announced that San Antonio Police would be taking over the investigation since the crime scene was within their jurisdiction.

This tragic incident has shocked the local community, and authorities are working diligently to bring justice to the victims.
