Woman Detained in Blackmail Case Involving Late South Korean Star Lee Sun-kyun

In a significant development related to the blackmail case involving the late South Korean star Lee Sun-kyun, a woman in her 20s has been detained by the police. The woman, identified as ‘A’, was reportedly apprehended while attempting to flee legal proceedings.

The Metropolitan Investigation Unit of the Incheon Police Agency issued an arrest warrant for ‘A’ on charges of extortion and blackmail on December 27.

According to news reports, ‘A’, aged 28, already had a pre-arrest warrant against her but unexpectedly failed to appear before the court at the Incheon District Court. With no explanation provided for her absence, law enforcement initiated a search to determine her whereabouts. Subsequently, they executed the arrest warrant, leading to her being taken into custody on the same day.

‘A’ is currently held at the Nonyeon Police Station in Incheon and awaits examination later today.

It has been reported that the ‘Parasite’ actor was blackmailed by ‘A’ and ‘B’, a 29-year-old female manager of an entertainment establishment, who coerced him into paying 300 million KRW. In the months leading up to his death by apparent suicide, the actor was allegedly asked to give a total of 50 million KRW (USD 38,624) to ‘A’ and 300 million KRW to the other individual ‘B’. Ongoing investigations seek to uncover the full extent of the allegations.

Lee Sun-kyun was under police investigation for his alleged involvement in a drugs case over suspicions related to the illegal consumption of marijuana and psychotropic substances. Despite undergoing three rounds of police interrogations, he vehemently denied the charges.

On December 27, in a tragic turn of events, Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in his car at a park in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It was later confirmed that he had passed away. Police reports have not yet confirmed if his death was, in fact, a suicide or if there was any sign of foul play.

His publicist confirmed on Wednesday that Lee passed away and that he will be laid to rest in a private funeral attended by only family and colleagues.
