29-year-old Palatine Man Faces Reckless Homicide and Aggravated DUI Charges

WHEELING, Ill. (WLS) – A tragic incident occurred earlier this month in the north suburbs of Wheeling, resulting in the death of a beloved high school teacher. The driver responsible for the fatal collision, Guillermo Salgado, a 29-year-old resident of Palatine, has now been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI by the Wheeling police.

The devastating head-on collision took place on December 10 at approximately 2:15 a.m. on East Palatine Road near Wheeling Road. Salgado, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time, was driving eastbound on Palatine Road when he veered into the westbound lanes, colliding with an oncoming vehicle. Tragically, the collision claimed the life of Robert Gillen, the esteemed high school teacher.

Gillen, who was a valued member of the educational community, served as a math teacher at Wauconda High School within the Wauconda Community Unit School District #118.
