Pune: Eight-Year-Old Boy Killed in Tragic Accident, Dumper Set on Fire by Angry Mob

Pune was left in shock when an eight-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic accident on Wednesday. The young boy, identified as Shaurya Avhale from Wagholi, was riding pillion on a scooter driven by his mother, Komal. Around 2:30 pm, a dumper hit their two-wheeler from behind and ran over Shaurya near Mantarwadi.

Immediately after the accident, an angry mob gathered at the scene and set the dumper on fire. The incident took place as Shaurya and his sister, Tunal, were on their way to Wadachiwadi to meet their uncle on Handewadi Road via Mantarwadi Phata.

The Hadapsar police acted swiftly and arrested the dumper driver, Balaji Pole, aged 30, from Wadachiwadi. He has been charged with rash and negligent driving. Additionally, a case of arson has been registered against unknown individuals in relation to the fire incident.

Senior Inspector Ravindra Shelke of the Hadapsar police provided more details about the accident. He stated, “The dumper driver attempted to overtake the scooter but lost control of his vehicle. As a result, he hit the two-wheeler from the rear side. The woman and her daughter fell off on the left side of the road and fortunately escaped unhurt. However, the boy fell on the right side of the road and was tragically run over by the dumper. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.”

Shelke further added, “The dumper driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene without reporting the accident to the police. The enraged mob then set the dumper on fire. The situation caused a disruption in vehicular traffic for approximately 45 minutes. A fire tender was deployed to extinguish the flames. We will take appropriate action against the individuals involved in the mob once their identities are established.”

A woman in Kolkata sustained serious injuries after her two-wheeler was struck by a Bengal police vehicle. Fortunately, her husband and child escaped with minor injuries. The incident occurred at Manton crossing in Behala. The involved police car is part of the vehicle pool of Diamond Harbour Police, located at the Pailan office. The driver of the police vehicle was apprehended by onlookers and handed over to the Behala Police.
