The girl who tragically drowned in floodwaters near Brisbane on Boxing Day has been identified as Mia Holland-McCormack, a lively and spirited nine-year-old girl. Mia’s untimely death occurred on Tuesday near her family home in the Logan suburb of Rochedale South.

Despite her severe autism, Mia had a mischievous and adventurous spirit, which led her to jump a back fence of the property. She was last spotted on Palara St around 6.15pm before she went missing.

Worried family members and friends quickly organized a search party, desperately hoping to locate Mia. Tragically, her lifeless body was discovered in floodwaters a few kilometers away at approximately 11pm.

Supporting Mia’s Grieving Parents

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to provide support to Mia’s parents, Ryan and Kayla. Mia’s cousin, Tamara, created the fundraiser to help cover the unexpected expenses that the grieving parents will face.

Tamara expressed her love and admiration for Mia, describing her as a spirited little girl who loved nothing more than embarking on exciting adventures and causing mischief. She also highlighted the financial strain that Mia’s parents will endure during this already challenging time, just after the Christmas season.

“If you are able to, I ask that you donate what you can to help cover funeral costs, additional grief counseling, and the inevitable time off work that Ryan and Kayla will need to process this devastating loss,” wrote Tamara on the fundraiser page. “Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Even a £2 donation can go a long way if we all come together.”

As of now, the GoFundMe campaign has raised over £8000, surpassing 80% of its £10,000 target.
