Tragic Collision on Interstate 57 Claims Two Lives on Christmas Day

St. Louis, MO – The Champaign County Coroner has recently released the identities of the individuals involved in a devastating accident that occurred on Christmas day on Interstate 57. The collision resulted in the unfortunate loss of two lives.

According to Coroner Stephen Thuney, one of the deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Muharem Ugarak, a resident of St. Louis. The other driver involved in the crash was 34-year-old Tyler Flynn from Dewey, who was traveling westbound on County Road 3200. Flynn’s vehicle veered off the road and collided with Ugarak’s northbound semi-truck. The tragic incident unfolded at mile marker 252 on I-57, just north of Rantoul.

Tragically, both Muharem Ugarak and Tyler Flynn were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, resulting in the closure of Interstate 57 for several hours. While an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted for Flynn later this week, no autopsy will be performed for Ugarak. The ongoing investigation into the collision is being led by the Illinois State Police in conjunction with the Champaign County Coroner’s office.
