Accident – death – Obituary News : Rampaging Knife Attack Leaves One Dead, Several Injured, and Vehicles Damaged in Lampang

At 8:00 PM on December 26th, 2023, Ngao police officers received a report about a knife crime incident in Ngao, Lampang. The incident involved a volunteer defense officer who was stabbed to death, six other people being harmed during the suspect’s escape, and multiple vehicles crashing.

According to the police report, the suspect was identified as Mr. Nonpawit Saejang, 39. After stabbing the volunteer defense officer, Mr. Phisit Sittitchum, 42, the suspect fled the scene on his motorbike. He then proceeded to rob a green pickup truck located one kilometer away from the initial crime scene.

The suspect’s crime spree continued as he attempted to rob another pickup truck at Nong Hiang PTT gas station. However, the owner of the pickup truck, a 61-year-old man, managed to lock himself inside the vehicle after being harmed by the suspect.

Undeterred, Nonpawit drove the stolen green pickup truck for 7 kilometers before targeting a 45-year-old female seafood vendor. He successfully stole her pickup truck and drove off for another 5 kilometers before crashing into several vehicles parked at a market in Pong Tao Subdistrict, Ngao.

During the rampage, Nonpawit also attacked bystanders with a knife before stealing yet another pickup truck. The police eventually tracked him down and apprehended him in Mae Chai, Phayao. As a result of the incident, one person lost their life, six individuals sustained knife injuries, and numerous vehicles were damaged in the crashes.

The suspect initially confessed to having an argument with his girlfriend in Chiang Rai and consuming amphetamine pills. He was traveling to Phitsanulok for work on his motorbike when he encountered a drug checkpoint in Ngao. It was at this checkpoint that he committed the fatal knife crime against the volunteer defense officer.

The police will further investigate the incident and gather evidence from local CCTV footage to ensure Nonpawit is held accountable for his crimes in the upcoming legal proceedings.
