Two History-Sheeters Shot Dead by Police in Kancheepuram

Two notorious history-sheeters met their demise in a shootout with the police in Kancheepuram during the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred when the police attempted to apprehend the duo, who were wanted in connection with a murder case.

The deceased individuals have been identified as Ragu and Hassan, also known as ‘Karuppu’ Hassan. They were allegedly involved in the murder of another notorious criminal, Saravanan alias Prabakar, from VOC Street, Kancheepuram. Saravanan had a long history of criminal activities, with over 40 cases of murder and other offenses attributed to him. The fatal attack on Saravanan took place near his residence on Tuesday, carried out by a gang due to past enmity.

M. Sudhakar, the Superintendent of Police in Kancheepuram, stated, “In response to the murder of Saravanan on Tuesday, we assembled a special team to apprehend all the suspects involved. Acting on information that two of the suspects were hiding in Indira Nagar, the special team conducted a search operation. At approximately 5:30 a.m., when our personnel surrounded them, one of the suspects attacked two of our officers with a knife. In self-defense, a sub-inspector from our team had to open fire.”

Following the incident, the injured suspects were immediately transported by the police to the Government General Hospital in Kancheepuram. However, upon examination, the doctors on duty pronounced them dead on arrival. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kancheepuram, R. Ponni, visited the crime scene and initiated further inquiries.
