Pedestrian Fatally Injured in Southwest Charlotte Crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Tragedy struck on Monday, December 18th, as a pedestrian succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident that occurred two weeks prior in southwest Charlotte, according to a statement released by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The deceased has been identified as Rontrey Digsby, a 37-year-old individual. The incident took place on Tuesday, December 5th, at approximately 9:15 a.m. along Contemporary Place, near South Tryon Street.

Authorities have confirmed that Digsby was traversing through the parking lot of The Addison at South Tryon in a motorized wheelchair when he was struck by a Toyota Camry. He was promptly rushed to Atrium Health Main for medical attention. After receiving treatment, he was eventually discharged.

Sadly, complications arising from his injuries compelled Digsby to request medical assistance from Medic two weeks later, on Monday, December 18th. He was swiftly transported back to Atrium Health Main, but sadly, he was later pronounced deceased.

Promptly after being informed of Digsby’s demise, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police launched an investigation. At this stage, they do not suspect that speed or impairment played a role in the collision.
