PORTAGE, Ind. (WGN) — A miraculous rescue took place in Northwest Indiana after a man was found trapped under a bridge along Interstate 94 following a crash.

Emergency crews received a call at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday when two men, Nivardo Delatorre and his father-in-law Mario Garcia, stumbled upon the crashed vehicle while scouting for fishing locations near Salt Creek beneath the bridge.

Indiana State Police reported that the vehicle was partially submerged in the creek, catching the attention of the two men.

The curiosity of Delatorre and Garcia led one of them to investigate the crashed vehicle, where they discovered a man trapped inside.

The man has been identified as Matthew Reum, a 27-year-old resident of Indiana.
