Man Shoots and Wounds Aggressive Individual Outside Bar in Palm Beach County

A 35-year-old man, who felt threatened by the behavior of a 28-year-old individual outside a bar, took action by shooting and injuring the latter. The incident occurred in Palm Beach Commons plaza around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, as reported by the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office detectives.

According to the arrest report posted on the county’s clerk site on Wednesday, Darryl Gary-Paul McLinton, a resident from the western part of Lake Worth Beach, has been charged with robbery, simple assault, and criminal mischief in connection to the incident. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed these charges on Monday.

Following the shooting, McLinton was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, once he was cleared by the medical team, he was booked into the Palm Beach County jail at 2:04 p.m. on Sunday. During his initial court appearance on Monday, the judge ordered him to have no contact with the victim. McLinton’s next court hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on January 23.

The incident took place at 1306 N. Military Trail, where deputies arrived after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, they found McLinton with a gunshot wound in his abdomen, as stated in the police report.

It was revealed that the individual who shot McLinton, Jeffery Boyd, remained at the scene following the incident.

According to the police report, detectives discovered that McLinton had displayed aggressive and agitated behavior during his time at the bar. After leaving the establishment, McLinton proceeded to the parking lot, where he approached Boyd’s black Tesla Model 3. Despite security members attempting to disperse him, McLinton persisted in his aggression and refused to leave the area.

Boyd, the owner of the vehicle, questioned McLinton about his presence inside the car. This seemed to further agitate McLinton, who started walking aggressively towards Boyd, claiming association with a gang, according to detectives and the police report. Despite Boyd’s repeated instructions to stop, McLinton continued to advance, prompting Boyd to fear for his life.

Believing that McLinton was armed, Boyd retrieved his 9mm Springfield handgun from his vehicle. McLinton remained with his hand in his waistband and maneuvered around the front hood area of the Tesla. This unsettling behavior caused Boyd to discharge his handgun in self-defense, as demonstrated during a subsequent investigation with detectives.

Remarkably, even after being shot, McLinton persisted in his pursuit of Boyd. It was only when bystanders intervened that the situation was diffused.

Witnesses later reported that McLinton had scratched the hood of the Tesla with an unidentified object.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of personal safety and the right to self-defense. The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case, and further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
