Authorities deemed the fire suspicious and interviewed one of the occupants of the apartment where the fire originated. The other occupant had already left the scene before the arrival of the first responders.

The resident who stayed at the scene claimed that his roommate, identified as 32-year-old Colton Davis, started an argument the night before, leading to the decision that Davis could no longer stay in the apartment.
