Remains Found in Shallow Grave Near Arizona-Nevada Border Finally Identified After 50 Years

MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. — In a recent announcement, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office revealed the long-awaited identification of human remains discovered almost half a century ago in a shallow grave near the Arizona-Nevada border. Hikers stumbled upon the grave on November 23, 1976, in the desert close to Katherine’s Landing. After extensive investigations, authorities concluded that the victim, a man, had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head at close range. However, despite collecting fingerprints, law enforcement officials were unable to establish the man’s identity at the time.

Breaking news reports now confirm that the man found buried in the desert has been identified as Luis Alonso Paredes. Paredes, originally from El Salvador, was believed to have potentially lived or worked in the Las Vegas area before his tragic demise. Additionally, investigators discovered that Paredes may have been associated with the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy in the San Francisco Bay area around ten years prior to his death.

The breakthrough in identifying Paredes came when investigators compared the fingerprints taken in 1976 with recently accessible national records. This newly available information led to the positive identification of the victim, shedding light on a case that had remained unsolved for decades.
