In accordance with an arrest affidavit, the officers, awaiting backup, witnessed a man exit the stolen Jeep to refuel the vehicle. Seizing the opportunity, they decided to act.

As backup arrived, the officers strategically blocked the Jeep, prompting the driver to violently collide with an officer’s patrol car in an attempt to flee the scene. Undeterred, the suspect managed to evade the blockade and sped away on West Trinity Lane, reaching dangerous speeds.

With lights flashing and sirens blaring, the officers initiated a pursuit, determined to apprehend the fugitive. The chase ensued, with the police closely tailing the suspect on the roadway.

However, fortune quickly turned against the suspect as he lost control of the stolen Jeep at the intersection of Old Matthews Road, colliding with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was subsequently transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment, according to Metro police.

As the stolen Jeep came to a final halt in front of Haynes Middle School, an officer immediately drew their weapon and ordered the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Terrance Hayes Jr., to exit the vehicle. Despite repeated instructions, Hayes refused to comply, prompting the officer to forcefully open the Jeep’s door and pull Hayes out, eventually detaining him on the ground.

An arrest report revealed that Hayes actively resisted arrest, even resorting to grabbing the officer’s genitals. In response, the officer resorted to multiple strikes until Hayes finally surrendered and was placed under arrest. The physical altercation was a direct result of Hayes’ non-compliance.

Following the suspect’s arrest, law enforcement officers discovered a satchel outside the stolen Jeep, containing 4.8 grams of fentanyl, 2.5 grams of cocaine, 1.3 grams of methamphetamine, and a digital scale. Additionally, a safe concealed under the driver’s seat yielded 18.8 grams of marijuana, along with 26 THC pills and a loaded handgun resting on the passenger seat. Notably, several empty alcoholic beverage cans were also found in the passenger’s side compartment. Officers at the scene reported that Hayes appeared to be in a dazed state, exhibiting incoherent speech.

Based on Hayes’ erratic driving behavior, physical indicators of impairment, and the substantial amount of narcotics found inside the stolen vehicle, officers concluded that Hayes was under the influence at the time of the incident. Further investigation revealed that Hayes had a revoked Tennessee driver’s license, compounding his legal troubles.

As a result, Hayes now faces an extensive list of charges, including felony aggravated assault on a first responder, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and numerous drug-related offenses.
