Tragic Car Crash Claims Life of Founding Member of The Dixie Chicks in Hudspeth County

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A devastating car accident on Friday night, December 22, along U.S. Highway 62 in Hudspeth County has tragically taken the life of a beloved founding member of The Dixie Chicks. The victim, identified as Laura Caroline Lynch, a 65-year-old woman from Fort Worth, was involved in a head-on collision that also left another individual injured.

Reports from reputable national media sources such as USA Today, The New York Post, CBS Network, and TMZ have confirmed that Laura Caroline Lynch, a founding member of The Dixie Chicks, was the unfortunate fatality in the crash that occurred outside of El Paso. It should be noted that the band has since undergone a name change and is now known as The Chicks.

The tragic incident took place around 5:45 p.m., approximately 25 miles west of Dell City and 8 miles west of Cornudas, as stated by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

According to the DPS, the collision occurred when a pickup truck, traveling in the westbound direction on U.S. 62, attempted to overtake another vehicle along an undivided two-way section of the highway. Tragically, the pickup truck collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Laura Caroline Lynch. The victim, hailing from Fort Worth, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver’s vehicle caught fire, and they were subsequently transported to an El Paso hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The DPS has not released the identity of the driver of the first vehicle involved in the crash.

Due to the severity of the accident, the highway remained closed until approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, causing disruption for other motorists.

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues its investigation into the crash, and at this time, no further details have been disclosed regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
