FISHERS, Ind. – A 21-year-old man from Fishers, Indiana, has been charged with criminal recklessness after accidentally shooting his neighbor’s apartment with his AR-15 rifle. The incident occurred over the weekend while the man was cleaning his firearm.

Joshua Zahedi, the accused, was arrested on Saturday, December 23, following a report of shots fired at the 8500 block of Scenic View Drive. Upon arrival, officers found Zahedi outside his apartment, signaling for their attention.

After conducting a pat-down search and reading Zahedi his Miranda Rights, police officers engaged in conversation with him. Zahedi explained that he was in the process of cleaning his 5.56 caliber Radical Firearms AR-15 when the accidental discharge occurred. While reassembling the gun, Zahedi inadvertently applied pressure to the trigger, causing a round to be fired through his apartment ceiling.

The bullet traveled through the ceiling and entered the apartment directly above Zahedi’s. Concerned for the welfare of the tenants, Zahedi promptly exited his apartment to check on them.

Subsequently, officers spoke with a female resident of the affected apartment, who confirmed that the bullet had indeed entered her residence. Disturbingly, the woman revealed that her 4-year-old daughter was present in the apartment at the time of the incident.

Based on their investigation, the Fishers Police Department arrested Joshua Zahedi on a charge of Criminal Recklessness. This offense is considered a level 5 felony. Zahedi has since been booked into the Hamilton County Jail.
