Drunk Altercation Erupts at Late-Night Rice Congee Restaurant in Taipei City’s Daan District

A heated brawl ensued between two groups at a popular rice congee restaurant in Taipei City’s Daan District during the early hours of Tuesday morning (Dec. 27). The incident, involving three Taiwanese Americans and two local individuals, unfolded after a confrontation over spilled food escalated into a physical altercation.

The dispute unfolded when the group of three Taiwanese Americans was unexpectedly interrupted by the two locals, who accidentally spilled food on them. Despite their mistake, the locals refused to apologize, aggravating the situation further. The tension quickly escalated, resulting in a chaotic scene at the eatery, as reported by UDN.

Efforts made by the restaurant staff to diffuse the situation proved unsuccessful, as the two parties engaged in a heated exchange, exchanging words in both Mandarin and English. The situation eventually attracted the attention of the authorities, and the police were called to intervene.

However, even with the arrival of the police, the chaos was far from over. Another altercation broke out outside the restaurant as the five individuals were being escorted to a nearby police station. The police managed to regain control, and it wasn’t until early evening that the involved parties were allowed to leave the local precinct.

The individuals involved in the fight have been identified as a 29-year-old male named Chung (鍾) and a 33-year-old named Yu (游), both locals. On the other hand, the three Taiwanese Americans who found themselves embroiled in the altercation were identified as 27-year-old Meng, 27-year-old Hsu, and a 27-year-old named Rice.

The case has now been transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further investigation. Both parties have expressed their intention to sue each other for damages, indicating that the legal battle surrounding this incident is far from over.
