Driver Arrested for 5th OWI Offense in St. Croix County, Wisconsin

ST. CROIX COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – A motorist has been taken into custody in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, after being accused of committing their fifth offense of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).

On December 26, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Wisconsin State Troopers from the Northwest Region Eau Claire Post, responded to a crash that occurred near mile marker 26 on the westbound lanes of Interstate-94 in St. Croix County, according to a press release issued by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Upon receiving the report of the crash, authorities were informed that two individuals were seen fleeing south across I-94 on foot. Acting swiftly, the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department managed to apprehend two individuals on 50th Avenue, located south of the crash site. These individuals matched the description of the suspects who had fled the scene. They were subsequently handed over to the Wisconsin State Patrol to facilitate further investigation.

The press release reveals that the passenger accompanying the driver was released, while the driver himself, identified as 39-year-old David Andrle from Menomonie, Wis., was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, marking his fifth offense. Additionally, Andrle faces recommended charges for possession of THC and drug paraphernalia. Citations will also be issued for failure to notify the police of an accident and operating a vehicle after revocation. Notably, the arrested driver also had a felony warrant.
