Two young boys, aged 10, lost their lives in the incident. The boys’ father, identified as 29-year-old Paul Vinson, appeared in court for his initial hearing on Wednesday, where a cash bond of $1.5 million was set.

According to officials, the incident unfolded shortly before midnight on December 20th. A criminal complaint states that a deputy attempted to pull over Vinson’s vehicle on Interstate 94 for speeding and driving without license plates. However, Vinson chose to exit the interstate at Prospect Avenue in an attempt to evade the pursuing deputy.

The complaint further reveals that Vinson initially stopped the vehicle on Prospect Avenue but quickly sped away down Golf Road as the deputy approached. Deputies initiated a chase, but the fleeing vehicle reached speeds of up to 95 mph. Eventually, the vehicle crashed on Golf Road near Maple Avenue in Delafield. Upon reaching the scene, deputies discovered four individuals on the ground.

Investigators determined that the vehicle had lost control, veered into a ditch, and collided with a culvert before coming to rest on its side. Tragically, the two young boys were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, as stated in the complaint.

Following the crash, Vinson was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition. A 29-year-old woman, identified as Vinson’s girlfriend, was also transported to a hospital in stable condition. Additionally, two girls, aged 14 and 6, were in critical condition.

The sheriff’s department confirmed that both boys were Vinson’s sons, while the 29-year-old woman was his girlfriend and the 6-year-old was their daughter. The 14-year-old girl was identified as Vinson’s niece. All six individuals involved in the crash were residents of Milwaukee.

During an interview at the hospital, the 29-year-old woman stated that she did not recall much about the crash as she was mostly asleep during the drive. However, she did recall Vinson uttering “no no no” as the vehicle went into the ditch. The couple had been returning from a trip to the Mall of America and had left Minnesota around 6 p.m. or 7 p.m., according to her statement in the complaint.
