Ford Econoline Van Leads Linn County Sheriff’s Deputy on High-Speed Chase in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – On December 27th, 2023, at approximately 10:35 am, a Linn County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a Ford Econoline Van near the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. NE and Lawrence St. NE.

According to officials, instead of complying with the deputy’s signal, the van recklessly evaded the traffic stop. The high-speed pursuit began as the van sped off northbound on Sherman St., followed by a daring westward turn onto Texas Ave. It continued as the van swiftly navigated northbound on Center Point Rd. before making an evasive eastward maneuver onto 42nd St. Finally, after a series of adrenaline-filled twists and turns, the van came to a halt in the 1400 block of Miami Dr. NE.

The driver of the Ford Econoline Van was identified as 34-year-old Michael Redenbaugh, a resident of Cedar Rapids. Redenbaugh now faces multiple charges, including Driving While License Under Suspension, Attempting to Elude law enforcement, and Disobedience to a Traffic Control Device.

Additionally, authorities arrested another individual involved in the incident. Jon Paul Hampshire, a 50-year-old Cedar Rapids resident, was taken into custody due to an outstanding warrant.
