A 35-year-old man, fearing for his life outside a bar, shot and wounded a 28-year-old man displaying aggressive behavior, who was ultimately arrested, according to Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office detectives.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — In a recent incident at the Palm Beach Commons plaza, a 35-year-old man shot and wounded a 28-year-old man who was displaying aggressive behavior. The incident occurred outside a bar, and the shooter claimed to be acting in self-defense. The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office detectives have made an arrest regarding the case.

The arrest report was posted on the county’s clerk site on Wednesday. Darryl Gary-Paul McLinton, a 28-year-old resident from west of Lake Worth Beach, is facing charges of robbery, simple assault, and criminal mischief in connection to the incident. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that McLinton was taken to a hospital for treatment and later booked into the Palm Beach County jail at 2:04 p.m. on Sunday. During his first court appearance on Monday, he was ordered not to have any contact with the victim. His next court appearance has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on January 23.

The incident took place at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday when deputies were called to 1306 N. Military Trail. Upon arrival, they found Darryl Gary-Paul McLinton with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was immediately taken to a hospital for emergency medical care, but has since been released.

The shooter, identified as Jeffery Boyd, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. According to the police report, it was revealed that McLinton had displayed aggressive and agitated behavior during his time at the bar. He then proceeded to enter the parking lot where a black Tesla Model 3 was parked and approached Boyd, the owner of the vehicle. Security members attempted to disperse McLinton, but he continued to display aggressive behavior and refused to leave the area.

McLinton became further agitated when Boyd questioned his presence in the vehicle. He started walking aggressively towards Boyd, claiming to be a member of a gang. Boyd repeatedly asked him to stop, but McLinton ignored the requests. Concerned for his safety, Boyd entered his vehicle and noticed McLinton reaching into his waistband, giving the impression that he had a handgun.

In response, Boyd retrieved his 9mm Springfield handgun from his vehicle. McLinton continued to approach Boyd, moving around the front hood area of the Tesla. Fearing for his life, Boyd discharged his handgun. Despite being shot, McLinton still attempted to reach Boyd, but bystanders intervened to prevent further harm.

Witnesses later reported that McLinton had scratched the hood of the Tesla with an unknown object during the incident.
