26-Year-Old Man Allegedly Shot Dead by Security Guard in Rivers State

A young man, Chijioke Amadi, aged 26, hailing from Elele-Alimini in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State, has tragically lost his life in an alleged shooting incident involving a security guard attached to a local company in the area.

While the exact circumstances leading to Chijioke’s untimely demise remain unclear, one of his relatives confirmed the incident during a live interview on the popular radio station, 92.3 Nigeria Info, Port Harcourt.

Emeka Woke, a family member of the deceased, revealed that Chijioke was shot and killed on Monday while returning from their father’s farm. Expressing grief and seeking justice, Woke stated that his brother’s funeral would take place on Tuesday.

In his account of the incident, Woke explained, “Yesterday, one of our brothers went to the farm. On his way back, he was shot by a security guard from SIAT company. We have evidence as he was not alone. There were four people present when he was shot on our own land.”

Enraged by the tragedy, local youths took the victim’s lifeless body and placed it in front of the company premises as a form of protest.

Woke further added, “I can vouch for the authenticity of my statement because there were four witnesses. He went to the farm yesterday, and on his way back, the Siat security guard shot him. The incident occurred on our own land. On the same day, our community members gathered and brought his corpse to the company’s yard, demanding justice.”

Happiness Amadi, the late Chijioke’s widow and a nursing mother, expressed her shock and disbelief over the incident. She recounted, “Yesterday, I was at home with my newborn baby when my husband mentioned that he was going to the waterside. Next thing I heard was that Siat security shot him in the leg. He had gone to his grandfather’s farm. There is a witness who accompanied him and can testify to the shooting. I appeal to the government to apprehend those responsible for his death. Additionally, I am now left without anyone to care for my child.”

Upon reaching out to the spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, for an official statement on the incident, it was revealed that a situation report had not yet been received. However, she assured our reporter that she would gather information from the Divisional Police Officer and provide an update in due course.
